Gyllene Tider (
single )
Gyllene Tider was the first record ever released by Per Gessle and his group Gyllene Tider and this self titled EP was financed by the members of the group since they had no contract with any record company. The songs were recorded at Studio CMP in Halmstad during July and August 1978 with the original members of the group:
Mickael "Keef" Andersson - Drums, Jan "Janne" Carlsson - Bass, Per Gessle - Vocals and electric guitars, Mats "MP" Persson - Electric guitars and piano
The songs on this EP were not available anywhere else (except on some bootleg CDs) until they were released as a bonus CD together with the reissue of Gyllene Tider's first album in the summer of 2000. Different versions of the songs Billy and När alla vännerna gått hem were originally included on the albums Gyllene Tider and Moderna Tider.
Only 900 copies of this EP were ever made, of which some where sent to different record companies in order to try to get their attention. The record was also for sale and the group promoted it themselves by putting up posters in Halmstad and surrounding areas. The posters were printed on pink paper and had the following message:
"Gyllene Tider hat inte SEX utan fem låtar på sin nya EP. Köp den!"
Rough translation "Gyllene Tider doesn't have SEX (six and sex is spelled the same way in Swedish) but five songs on their new EP. Buy it!"
The person on the cover of the record was a classmate of Per Gessle and the phtotgraph was taken during a holiday trip in the summer of 1977.
Produced by Per-Olov Andersson and Gyllene Tider

Himmel No. 7 (
single )
Himmel No. 7 was Gyllene Tider's debut single on a mjor record label and the first edition of this single was released both on black and a limited edition on yellow vinyl.
This single was originally meant to be released as a double A-sided single but the printers made a nistake and therefore Himmel No. 7 was the A-side and Flickorna på TV2 the B-side on the first edition.
When the second edition of this single was released the mistake had been corrected and the song Flickorna på TV2 became the A-side.
The only way to spot the difference between the original release and the re-release is that Himmel No. 7 has A and B printed on the labels whereas Flickorna på TV2 has A1 and A2 printed.

|
Flickorna På TV2 / Himmel No. 7 (
single )
Flickorna På TV2 was originally the B-side on Gyllene Tider's single Himmel No. 7 and it is one of the most popular songs recorded by the group.
Because of the mistake the first edition of this single had misprinted labels and Flickorna på TV2 ended up as the B-side. This was later changed so that the single was double A-sided on the second edition.
Since Swedish radio had already started to play Flickorna på TV2 it was decided that this song should be the lead track and it was therefore labelled as A1 and Himmel No. 7 labelled as A2.
The only was to spot the difference between the original release and the re-release is that Flickorna På TV2 has A1 and A2 printed on the labels whereas Himmel No. 7 has A and B printed.

After School (
single )
After School was the only single released by the hobby group Peter Pop & The Helicopters and it was planned to be released before Gyllene Tider's breakthrough.
The songs were recorded at Studio 38 in Getinge in July 1979 and the only members of the group were Per Gessle and his close friend Mats "MP" Persson. The members of the group were supposed to remain a secret but the Swedish newspaper Expressen managed to reveal their identity in an article before the release of the single and therefore the sleeve was changed in the last minute.
Originally only 1287 copies of this single were made, of which 300 came in a plain white paper sleeve and were sent out as promotion with a small promotion sticker on it.
After Gyllene Tider's huge success the small record company Kap Records decided to make a new edition if 500 copies of the single to cash in on their success. The differences between the two releases are the colour of the text on the labels, the colour of the labels has been reversed and the reissue has A- and B-sides wheras the original release is double A-sided.

The second edition of this single was released on black vinyl (but with two diferent centres) in a die-cut sleeve and it is in fact harder to find than the original release.
Per Gessle sent an English version of the song to Paul McCartney, since Paul had the rights to all of Buddy Holly's songs, but he never got a reply.

When the album was released on CD in 1990 (in the box set Kompakta Tider) and 1991 (as a seperate CD) the song from the EP were included together with the following tracks:

Swing & Sweet (
single )
Swing & Sweet was a bonus-EP that came with the first edition of Gyllene Tider's second album Moderna Tider and the songs are Swedish versions of the following songs:
1) Mott The Hoople - Golden age for Rock'n'Roll, 2) Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers - I need to know, 3) The Beatles - And your bird can sing and 4) The Beach Boys - Girl don't tell me
These songs were also included on the first edition of the cassette of the album Moderna Tider and 1990 the songs were included as bonus tracks on the CD release of this album.
A copy of the song Vill ha ett svar! was sent to Tom Petty and Gyllene Tider received a telex from his manager stating that Tom liked their version of his song I need to know.

(Kom Så Ska Vi) Leva Livet (
single )
(Kom Så Ska Vi) Leva Livet was the second single to be taken from Gyllene Tider's album Moderna Tider and it was only released in a die-cut sleeve.

|
Tylö Sun (
single )
Tylö Sun is a Swedish version of The Rivieras' hit California Sun and it was recorded by Gyllene Tider under the name Halmstads Pärlor for the compilation cassette Radio Parlophone.
This version of the song is totally different compared to the version that later on was featured on their single Sommartider and their CD Puls. It's actually Mickael "Micke Syd" Andersson on lead vocals and the thought was that he would do a Ringo Starr (drummer in The Beatles) and release a solo single with Tylö Sun and Min Tjej Och Jag. The idea was later scratched...
Only 300 copies of this white label one-sided promotion single were made and it was sent out in a plain white paper sleeve.

|
Beating Heart (
single )
Beating Heart was a promotion single with English versions of Gyllene Tider's songs När vi två blir en (Beating heart) and Leka med elden (To play with fire) and both of these songs are unavailable on any other EMI release.
This single was the first attempt to promote Gyllene Tider outside Sweden and they chose the name Modern Times for this project since nobody would be able to pronounce the group real name. The name was later trashed due to the existence of another band named Modern Times.
Only 300 copies of this single were made and some of these were sent to the EMI offices in Europe to sound out any interest in releasing any album by the group.
Gyllene Tider actually recorded a whole album with English versions of some of their songs but since none of the EMI companies showed any interest in this single the thought of an album release were cancelled.

single )
Ljudet Av Ett Annat Hjärta was a single by Gyllene Tider which was released in connection with the premiere of the movie "Parkliv!" in the fall of 1981.
The song Teena was not available anywhere else until 1990 when it was included as a bonus track on the CD release of the album Moderna Tider.
Ljudet Av Ett Annat Hjärta was actually played during the concerts on the "Moderna Tider" tour of 1981 and a live version of this song was included on the live-album Parkliv!.
Only 200 copies of the white label promotion 12'' were made and it includes the same versions of the song as the commercial single.
The title Ljudet Av Ett Annat Hjärta was inspired by the song The Beating Of Another Heart recorded by the group Graham Parker and The Rumour and included on their album The Up Escalator from 1980.

single )
Ingenting Av Vad Du Behöver is a song which Gyllene Tider recorded at Studio 38 in Getinge in November 1981. Marie Fredriksson appears on backing vocals and this was the first time that Per and Marie recorded something together.
The reason for this recording was that the Swedish rock magazine Schlager wanted to release a New Year's single which eventually was sent out as a Christmas gift to subscribers of this magazine.
Ingenting av vad du behöver was not available anywhere else until 1990 when it was included as a bonus track on the CD release of the album Puls.

Heartland (
album )
Heartland was a 6-track mini album released in the U.S.A. by Gyllene Tider under the name Roxette. The songs were taken from their album The Heartland Café which was released in Sweden earlier the same year.
Because of Gyllene Tider's popularity in Sweden EMI decided to import copies of the mini album during fall of 1984. Since numerous copies of this album was sold in Swedish record shops it is easier to find second hand copies of the mini album in Sweden than in North America.
The name of the group was changed to Roxette as it was seen as a more international name and this was in fact the first time that Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson appeared together on a record under the name Roxette.
The name Gyllene was considered for a while and it was supposed to be pronounced "Djillin" in English. Per Gessle's comment was: "If a band can be named Duran Duran then why not Gyllene?"
There are two different pressings of this mini album and the only difference between them is the engravement on the run-off groove:
First edition: Side 1 MLP-1-15018 F-1 Mastered by Capitol Wally
Side 2 MLP-2-15018 F-2 Mastered by Capitol Wally
Second edition: Side 1 MLP-1-15018 F-4 Mastered by Capitol Wally

Sommartider (Reissue) (
single )
Sommartider is one of Gyllene Tider's most popular songs and it was originally released as a single in 1982 but in connection with Gyllene Tider's 10 - year anniversary in 1989 the single was re-released.
The only way to see the difference between the original release and the re-release is that the new issue of this single has 29/5-89 engraved on the run-off groove and that the adress to the Fan Club is removed from the B-side label.
The song was also released on 12'' and CDS at this time and they both included a remix of the song which is unavailable anywhere else.
Only 6.400 copies of the remix 12'' were made and it was released in both a die-cut picture sleeve and a regular picture sleeve. Only 1.900 copies of the CDS were made and this was Gyllene Tider's first release ever on CD.
In 1995 the single was once again supposed to be re-released (catalogue number 8651772) but the idea was later cancelled. A special promotion CDS was, however, released in only 1.500 copies and they all came in a plastic case without any inlay.

Instant Hits 1979-1989! (
album )
Instant Hits 1979-1989! was the first Gyllene Tider greatest hits album and it was released in connection whith the 10 - year anniversary of the group.
The album includes 17 of their most popular songs together with six new songs recorded under the name Pers Garage. The reason they used another name for the new recordings was that Anders Herrlin was not present and the group had made an agreement not to use the name Gyllene Tider on a recording unless all of the original members were present.
The commercial 2-LP was released in a gatefold die-cut sleeve but a special promotion edition of the sleeve was also made and the only difference between the sleeves is that the promotion edition was released without die-cut. The special edition of the picture sleeve was used for promotional puposes only and was never for sale in the record shops but some copies managed to reach the collectors market anyway.
On the spine of the 2-LP the following message is printed: "Gyllene Tider 10 År - Äntligen Lika Gamla Som Våra Fans!"
Rough translation: "Gyllene Tider 10 Years - Finally The Same Age As Our Fans!"
When Gyllene Tider released their second greatest hits album Halmstads Pärlor in 1995 it was decided that Instant Hits 1979-1989 should be withdrawn. Most of the copies that was sold of this album were 2-LPs and therefore the CD is quite rare today.
Produced by Lars-Göran "Lasse" Lindbom (Track 1 - 17) and Per Gessle (Track 18 - 23)

In connection with Gyllene Tider's 10-anniversary in 1989 the single was re-released on both black and yellow vinyl as well as on a remix 12''.
The difference between the reissue and the original release of this single (both on black and yellow vinyl) is that the new edition has a solid center (instead of a push-out center), the date 890816 is engraved on the run-off groove and it has a thin (instead of thick) die-cut graphic sleeve. The new edition of the yellow vinyl 7'' als has a bright yellow colour whereas the original release has a clear yellow colour.
Only 1.000 copies of this 12'' were made and it includes a special remix of the song which is unavailable anywhere else.

The Lonely Boys (
album )
The Lonely Boys is an album released by the hobby group The Lonely Boys which was formed to record a soundtrack for the book "De Ensamma Pojkarana" which was written by the Swedish rock / sport journalist Mats Olsson.
The recording of the album took only five days and seven of the songs were specially written for this album. The other seven are:
So Much In Love - This is a cover of the Mick Jagger / Keith Richards song (never recorded by The Rolling Stones themselves).
I'm Not Like You, Flowers On The Moon and September Girl - These songs were originally written for Wilmer X.
I Wanna Be With You - This song was originally written for Roxette.
Keep The Radio On (This Is The Perfect Song) - This song was originally written for Gyllene Tider with the title Gå Hem Innan Du Lägger Dej.
Genius Gone Wrong - This song was originally written for Gyllene Tider. A different version of the song is only available on the album Jag Har Förstått Allt, Men Jag Kan Inte Ge Några Detaljer.
When the book was released in November 1995 a limited edition bonus CD was included with the first 2.000 copies of the book. On the cover of this bonus CD the names of the fictional characters from the book were printed instead of the musicians' real names which were supposed to be secret. As the media had already started to write about the real names of the group members there were no queues outside the few bookshops that had the first edition of the book.
The bonus CD in fact been manufactured as a run of 2.500 copies and 500 copies of these were used as promotional copies. A limited edition of 640 promotional vinyl records was also made and this vinyl album immediately became a collectors item which was soon sold for SEK 500 or more.
When the commercial CD was released the secret that most fans already knew was revealed.
The musicians were members of the Swedish groups Gyllene Tider and Wilmer X.
Produced by Michael Ilbert and The Lonely Boys.
